# Openchat vs NSChat

The clearest difference is rating: Openchat at 4.7 against NSChat's 4.0. Openchat also leads on ratings volume (4.4K vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). NSChat's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Openchat sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days and NSChat sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Openchat holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Openchat has 4.4K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of Openchat's written reviews are positive against 100% of NSChat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Openchat ships an update every 3 weeks, NSChat every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
