# Elevation Map vs Mountain Weather

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Mountain Weather at none against Elevation Map's 3. Mountain Weather also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks). Elevation Map's advantage is ratings volume (24 vs 4) and review sentiment (67% vs 58%). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Elevation Map sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Mountain Weather asks for nothing beyond the download.

Mountain Weather holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Elevation Map has 24 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Elevation Map's written reviews are positive against 58% of Mountain Weather's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Elevation Map ships an update every 6 weeks, Mountain Weather fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
