# DB vs Word Editor

The clearest difference is monetization model: DB at free with in-app purchases against Word Editor's subscription. Word Editor's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and review sentiment (22% vs 4%). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. DB sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and Word Editor sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

DB holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Word Editor has 767 ratings behind it against 37, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 4% of DB's written reviews are positive against 22% of Word Editor's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

DB ships an update every 5 months, Word Editor every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
