# Hourglass vs Dot It Down

The clearest difference is rating: Dot It Down at 5.0 against Hourglass's 4.5. Dot It Down also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 3 days vs weekly). Hourglass's advantage is ratings volume (255 vs 2) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs paid). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hourglass sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Dot It Down sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Dot It Down holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hourglass has 255 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Hourglass ships an update weekly, Dot It Down every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
