# CDL Prep vs Mushroom Identifier

The clearest difference is rating: CDL Prep at 4.8 against Mushroom Identifier's 4.4. CDL Prep also leads on ratings volume (360 vs 38) and iOS requirement (12.4 vs 16.4). Mushroom Identifier's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and review sentiment (50% vs 25%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CDL Prep sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per 3 months and Mushroom Identifier sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

CDL Prep holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CDL Prep has 360 ratings behind it against 38, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 25% of CDL Prep's written reviews are positive against 50% of Mushroom Identifier's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CDL Prep ships an update every 5 months, Mushroom Identifier every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
