# CDL Permit Test vs CDL Prep

The clearest difference is update cadence: CDL Prep at every 2 months against CDL Permit Test's every 24 months. CDL Prep also leads on ratings volume (153 vs 20). CDL Permit Test's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (13.4 vs 16.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CDL Permit Test sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and CDL Prep sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

CDL Permit Test holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CDL Prep has 153 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two.

CDL Permit Test ships an update every 24 months, CDL Prep every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 20, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
