# Speed reading vs SmartMe

The clearest difference is ads: Speed reading at none against SmartMe's shown. Speed reading also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). SmartMe's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 5 weeks) and review sentiment (46% vs 25%). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speed reading sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and SmartMe sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Speed reading against 4.8 for SmartMe. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SmartMe has 3.6K ratings behind it against 143, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 25% of Speed reading's written reviews are positive against 46% of SmartMe's.

Speed reading ships an update every 5 weeks, SmartMe weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
