# Chill Paint vs Calligraphy Handbook

The clearest difference is update cadence: Chill Paint at every 3 weeks against Calligraphy Handbook's every 4 months. Chill Paint also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.5) and device support (3 vs 1). Calligraphy Handbook's advantage is ratings volume (517 vs 10) and review sentiment (70% vs 50%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chill Paint sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Calligraphy Handbook sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chill Paint holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Calligraphy Handbook has 517 ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Chill Paint's written reviews are positive against 70% of Calligraphy Handbook's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chill Paint ships an update every 3 weeks, Calligraphy Handbook every 4 months. Both last shipped on October 23, 2026.
