# Writing Room vs Cooing

The clearest difference is monetization model: Writing Room at free with in-app purchases against Cooing's subscription. Writing Room also leads on ratings volume (149 vs 1). Cooing's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Writing Room sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $49.99 per month and Cooing sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Cooing holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Writing Room has 149 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Writing Room ships an update every 8 days, Cooing fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
