# HoLaTeX vs Math Notes

The clearest difference is monetization model: HoLaTeX at freemium against Math Notes's subscription. HoLaTeX also leads on rating (4.0 vs 3.6) and iOS requirement (16.6 vs 26.0). Math Notes's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (22 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. HoLaTeX sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $23.95 per year and Math Notes sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

HoLaTeX holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Math Notes has 22 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

HoLaTeX ships an update every 2 months, Math Notes fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 25, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
