# MapGenie vs TK8

The clearest difference is rating: MapGenie at 4.8 against TK8's 3.8. MapGenie also leads on ratings volume (157 vs 4) and device support (3 vs 1). TK8's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 17 months). On price and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. TK8 asks for nothing beyond the download.

MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 157 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 43% of MapGenie's written reviews are positive against 67% of TK8's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MapGenie ships an update every 17 months, TK8 every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
