# Lunarwrite vs Private Diary

The clearest difference is monetization model: Private Diary at free against Lunarwrite's free with in-app purchases. Private Diary also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 85%) and rating (5.0 vs 4.8). Lunarwrite's advantage is ratings volume (101 vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Lunarwrite sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Private Diary sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Private Diary holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lunarwrite has 101 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 85% of Lunarwrite's written reviews are positive against 100% of Private Diary's.

Lunarwrite ships an update monthly, Private Diary fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
