# Dauntless OBD vs ELMCheck

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Dauntless OBD at none against ELMCheck's 1. Dauntless OBD also leads on ratings volume (11 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18). ELMCheck's advantage is update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ELMCheck sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Dauntless OBD asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Dauntless OBD against 5.0 for ELMCheck. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Dauntless OBD has 11 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Dauntless OBD ships an update every 3 weeks, ELMCheck every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
