# The North 40 vs RMPlanner

The clearest difference is update cadence: RMPlanner at every 3 days against The North 40's every 8 months. RMPlanner also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8). The North 40's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (19 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The North 40 sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and RMPlanner sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $1.79 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

RMPlanner holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: The North 40 has 19 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

The North 40 ships an update every 8 months, RMPlanner every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
