# Step Tracker vs MedalMad

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: MedalMad at none against Step Tracker's 17. MedalMad also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (93% vs 74%). Step Tracker's advantage is ratings volume (177 vs 3) and rating (4.6 vs 4.3). On price, update cadence, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Step Tracker sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. MedalMad asks for nothing beyond the download.

Step Tracker holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Step Tracker has 177 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 74% of Step Tracker's written reviews are positive against 93% of MedalMad's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Step Tracker ships an update fortnightly, MedalMad every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
