# Step Year vs StepMate

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: StepMate at none against Step Year's 1. StepMate also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6). Step Year's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 weeks) and ratings volume (25 vs 1). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Step Year sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. StepMate asks for nothing beyond the download.

StepMate holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Step Year has 25 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Step Year ships an update every 2 weeks, StepMate every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
