# Math Notes vs WriteTex

The clearest difference is rating: WriteTex at 5.0 against Math Notes's 3.6. WriteTex also leads on monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and iOS requirement (17.0 vs 26.0). Math Notes's advantage is ratings volume (22 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Math Notes sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and WriteTex sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

WriteTex holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Math Notes has 22 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Math Notes ships an update fortnightly, WriteTex every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
