# VPN Global Guard vs Sophon

The clearest difference is monetization model: Sophon at free with in-app purchases against VPN Global Guard's subscription. VPN Global Guard's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.1) and review sentiment (40% vs 29%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN Global Guard sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Sophon sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

VPN Global Guard holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN Global Guard has 540 ratings behind it against 74, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 40% of VPN Global Guard's written reviews are positive against 29% of Sophon's.

VPN Global Guard ships an update every 2 weeks, Sophon every 9 days. Both last shipped on October 27, 2026.
