# PrivateGPT vs OwnNotes

The clearest difference is ads: PrivateGPT at none against OwnNotes's shown. OwnNotes's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PrivateGPT sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days and OwnNotes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

PrivateGPT ships an update every 3 weeks, OwnNotes every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
