# GPT Chess vs Chess Jester

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Chess Jester at 100% against GPT Chess's 33%. GPT Chess's advantage is rating (4.1 vs 3.7) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 3 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GPT Chess sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $1.99 per month and Chess Jester sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

GPT Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GPT Chess has 16 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of GPT Chess's written reviews are positive against 100% of Chess Jester's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

GPT Chess ships an update every 9 days, Chess Jester every 3 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
