# Project Iris vs AstroBox

Project Iris and AstroBox both sit at 5.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Project Iris's written reviews are positive against 50% of AstroBox's. Project Iris also leads on monetization model (free vs freemium) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Project Iris sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and AstroBox sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Project Iris against 5.0 for AstroBox. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Project Iris has 14 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 100% of Project Iris's written reviews are positive against 50% of AstroBox's.

Project Iris ships an update every 4 days, AstroBox every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
