# AstroEdit vs Lightning Camera

The clearest difference is price: Lightning Camera at Free against AstroEdit's $2.99. Lightning Camera also leads on rating (4.3 vs 3.9) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 17.0). AstroEdit's advantage is chart position (#113 vs unranked) and review sentiment (62% vs 50%). On ratings volume, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Lightning Camera is free to download; AstroEdit costs $2.99 up front. AstroEdit sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Lightning Camera sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Lightning Camera holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.9. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 17 and 38 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of AstroEdit's written reviews are positive against 50% of Lightning Camera's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

AstroEdit ships an update every 6 days, Lightning Camera every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
