# Self vs Self App

The clearest difference is ads: Self at none against Self App's shown. Self also leads on ratings volume (24 vs 2) and device support (3 vs 1). Self App's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 70%) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 4 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Self sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Self App sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Self against 4.5 for Self App. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Self has 24 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 70% of Self's written reviews are positive against 100% of Self App's.

Self ships an update every 4 months, Self App every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
