# Cross Tails vs Aethera

The clearest difference is monetization model: Aethera at free against Cross Tails's subscription. Aethera also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (19 vs 1). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Cross Tails sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $1.99 per month and Aethera sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $10.00 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Cross Tails against 4.9 for Aethera. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Aethera has 19 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Cross Tails ships an update every 4 months, Aethera fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
