# BookPlayer vs Tome Player

The clearest difference is rating: BookPlayer at 4.5 against Tome Player's 3.7. BookPlayer also leads on ratings volume (244 vs 3) and iOS requirement (12.1 vs 26.0). Tome Player's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 59%) and in-app purchases (none vs 5). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BookPlayer sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Tome Player asks for nothing beyond the download.

BookPlayer holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BookPlayer has 244 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of BookPlayer's written reviews are positive against 100% of Tome Player's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

BookPlayer ships an update weekly, Tome Player fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
