# Word Counts vs Untangle

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Untangle at 100% against Word Counts's 50%. Untangle also leads on price (Free vs $2.99) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). Word Counts's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ads (none vs shown). On device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Untangle is free to download; Word Counts costs $2.99 up front. Untangle sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Word Counts asks for nothing beyond the download.

Word Counts holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Untangle has 10 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Word Counts's written reviews are positive against 100% of Untangle's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Word Counts ships an update every 3 months, Untangle fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
