# Chroma vs VirtualFriend

The clearest difference is update cadence: Chroma at every 2 days against VirtualFriend's every 24 months. Chroma also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8). VirtualFriend's advantage is review sentiment (95% vs 67%) and ratings volume (20 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chroma sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and VirtualFriend sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chroma holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VirtualFriend has 20 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Chroma's written reviews are positive against 95% of VirtualFriend's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chroma ships an update every 2 days, VirtualFriend every 24 months. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
