# Ambience Search vs Underlairs

The clearest difference is monetization model: Underlairs at freemium against Ambience Search's subscription. Underlairs also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 12 months) and ratings volume (8 vs 2). Ambience Search's advantage is iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ambience Search sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.99 per month and Underlairs sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Ambience Search against 5.0 for Underlairs. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 8 respectively.

Ambience Search ships an update every 12 months, Underlairs every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
