# Scala vs ESAME

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ESAME at none against Scala's 7. ESAME also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.4). Scala's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scala sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. ESAME asks for nothing beyond the download.

Scala ships an update weekly, ESAME every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
