# August Home vs Gate Smart Lock

The clearest difference is rating: August Home at 4.8 against Gate Smart Lock's 3.1. August Home also leads on ratings volume (175K vs 42). Gate Smart Lock's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

August Home holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: August Home has 175K ratings behind it against 42, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 30% of August Home's written reviews are positive against 37% of Gate Smart Lock's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

August Home ships an update fortnightly, Gate Smart Lock monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
