# Spime vs Backpackr

The clearest difference is ads: Backpackr at none against Spime's shown. Backpackr also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Spime's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs monthly) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spime sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Backpackr sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Spime ships an update fortnightly, Backpackr monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
