# Mindsnap vs Fathom

The clearest difference is monetization model: Mindsnap at freemium against Fathom's subscription. Mindsnap also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Fathom's advantage is review sentiment (69% vs 48%) and rating (4.8 vs 4.6). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mindsnap sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days and Fathom sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Fathom holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 297 and 507 respectively. Written reviews point the same way: 48% of Mindsnap's written reviews are positive against 69% of Fathom's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
