# Ocean Private vs Tom VPN

The clearest difference is rating: Ocean Private at 5.0 against Tom VPN's 4.5. Ocean Private also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.1). Tom VPN's advantage is ratings volume (1.4K vs 1). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ocean Private sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and Tom VPN sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ocean Private holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tom VPN has 1.4K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
