# Viewu vs Freegate

The clearest difference is rating: Viewu at 5.0 against Freegate's 4.0. Viewu also leads on update cadence (every 3 days vs every 2 weeks) and ratings volume (7 vs 1). Freegate's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 71%) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Viewu holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Viewu has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of Viewu's written reviews are positive against 100% of Freegate's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Viewu ships an update every 3 days, Freegate every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 21, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
