# QR Barcode Scanner vs Step Guard

The clearest difference is update cadence: Step Guard at every 5 days against QR Barcode Scanner's every 6 weeks. Step Guard also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). QR Barcode Scanner's advantage is ratings volume (30 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. QR Barcode Scanner sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Step Guard sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Step Guard holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: QR Barcode Scanner has 30 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

QR Barcode Scanner ships an update every 6 weeks, Step Guard every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
