# Carrier SmartHome vs Ion SmartHome

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Carrier SmartHome at 2.6K against Ion SmartHome's 228. On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Ion SmartHome holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Carrier SmartHome has 2.6K ratings behind it against 228, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 11% of Carrier SmartHome's written reviews are positive against 10% of Ion SmartHome's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 8, 2026 respectively.
