# Countdown Widget vs Shimmer Browser

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Countdown Widget at 100% against Shimmer Browser's 50%. Countdown Widget also leads on iOS requirement (17.0 vs 26.0). Shimmer Browser's advantage is update cadence (every 6 days vs every 3 months) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Countdown Widget sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Shimmer Browser sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shimmer Browser holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 2 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Countdown Widget's written reviews are positive against 50% of Shimmer Browser's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Countdown Widget ships an update every 3 months, Shimmer Browser every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026 respectively.
