# Text to Speech vs SMS Virtual

The clearest difference is rating: Text to Speech at 4.9 against SMS Virtual's 4.3. Text to Speech also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and device support (3 vs 1). SMS Virtual's advantage is update cadence (every 5 days vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (121 vs 8). On price, ads, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Text to Speech sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and SMS Virtual sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Text to Speech holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SMS Virtual has 121 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Text to Speech's written reviews are positive against 11% of SMS Virtual's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Text to Speech ships an update every 4 months, SMS Virtual every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
