# Chipolo vs GenGold

The clearest difference is update cadence: Chipolo at weekly against GenGold's every 2 months. Chipolo also leads on ratings volume (18K vs 29) and review sentiment (69% vs 50%). GenGold's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Chipolo against 4.6 for GenGold. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chipolo has 18K ratings behind it against 29, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 69% of Chipolo's written reviews are positive against 50% of GenGold's.

Chipolo ships an update weekly, GenGold every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
