# Tool Evolution vs Backpack Hero

Tool Evolution and Backpack Hero both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 33% of Backpack Hero's written reviews are positive against 20% of Tool Evolution's. Backpack Hero also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 weeks) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Tool Evolution's advantage is ratings volume (12K vs 2.3K). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Tool Evolution sells 15 one-off in-app purchases and Backpack Hero sells 28 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Tool Evolution against 4.6 for Backpack Hero. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tool Evolution has 12K ratings behind it against 2.3K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 20% of Tool Evolution's written reviews are positive against 33% of Backpack Hero's.

Tool Evolution ships an update every 3 weeks, Backpack Hero every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
