# Spotr vs Protocol

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Protocol at 100% against Spotr's 61%. Protocol also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Spotr's advantage is ratings volume (640 vs 6) and iOS requirement (16.1 vs 18.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spotr sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Protocol sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Protocol holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spotr has 640 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 61% of Spotr's written reviews are positive against 100% of Protocol's.

Spotr ships an update every 2 days, Protocol every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
