# Censor vs Backdrop

The clearest difference is ads: Backdrop at none against Censor's shown. Backdrop also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs monthly). Censor's advantage is iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.0). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Censor sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Backdrop sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Censor ships an update monthly, Backdrop fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
