# Notebook vs Journal

The clearest difference is ads: Journal at none against Notebook's shown. Journal also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Notebook's advantage is ratings volume (14K vs 6). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Notebook sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Journal sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Journal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Notebook has 14K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Notebook ships an update weekly, Journal every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
