# Black Box vs App Lock

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Black Box at none against App Lock's 1. Black Box also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 10 days). App Lock's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. App Lock sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Black Box asks for nothing beyond the download.

App Lock holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Black Box has 41 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Black Box ships an update every 3 days, App Lock every 10 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
