# Sound Generator vs Frequency

The clearest difference is rating: Frequency at 4.7 against Sound Generator's 2.5. Frequency also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 2). Sound Generator's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (100% vs 73%). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Frequency holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Frequency has 1.1K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Sound Generator's written reviews are positive against 73% of Frequency's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Sound Generator ships an update every 5 months, Frequency fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
