# Magic Sorting Hat vs Random

The clearest difference is rating: Random at 4.5 against Magic Sorting Hat's 2.7. Random also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (2.8K vs 23). Magic Sorting Hat's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (7.0 vs 16.0). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Magic Sorting Hat sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Random sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Random holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Random has 2.8K ratings behind it against 23, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 36% of Magic Sorting Hat's written reviews are positive against 56% of Random's.

Magic Sorting Hat ships an update every 5 months, Random every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
