# LIFX vs music light

The clearest difference is rating: LIFX at 3.7 against music light's 2.6. LIFX also leads on ratings volume (7.1K vs 81). music light's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (every 4 days vs fortnightly). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

LIFX holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 2.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: LIFX has 7.1K ratings behind it against 81, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 18% of LIFX's written reviews are positive against 26% of music light's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

LIFX ships an update fortnightly, music light every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
