# Viewfinder vs Surface Camera

The clearest difference is rating: Surface Camera at 5.0 against Viewfinder's 4.2. Surface Camera also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 days). Viewfinder's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ratings volume (5 vs 1). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Surface Camera sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month. Viewfinder asks for nothing beyond the download.

Surface Camera holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Viewfinder has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Viewfinder ships an update every 4 days, Surface Camera every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
