# Smile App Launcher vs Recode

The clearest difference is rating: Smile App Launcher at 4.7 against Recode's 4.2. Smile App Launcher also leads on monetization model (free vs freemium) and review sentiment (91% vs 67%). Recode's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 5 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Smile App Launcher sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days and Recode sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Smile App Launcher holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smile App Launcher has 340 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 91% of Smile App Launcher's written reviews are positive against 67% of Recode's.

Smile App Launcher ships an update every 5 weeks, Recode weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
