# Authenticator vs Home Detector

The clearest difference is ads: Authenticator at none against Home Detector's shown. Authenticator also leads on ratings volume (190 vs 3). Home Detector's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 6 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Authenticator sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days and Home Detector sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Home Detector holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Authenticator has 190 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 4% of Authenticator's written reviews are positive against 0% of Home Detector's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Authenticator ships an update every 6 months, Home Detector weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
